Public relations (PR) is more than just building a brand, it is a powerful tool for advocacy.
As a public relations intern at Students United, I have seen firsthand the power of PR in advocacy. Students United is a nonprofit actively working to represent and support Minnesota university students and advocate for higher education policies that make a positive impact for our students and communities.
PR plays a crucial role in advocacy by shaping public opinion, raising awareness, and driving change. It helps build relationships with media outlets, uses various communication channels to promote a cause, and serves as a voice for movements or organizations seeking policy change.
During my time at Students United, I have witnessed how PR strategies can strengthen awareness of causes. I have helped promote Students United's mission and initiatives. Not only have they been successful but also rewarding. For example, one project I have worked on involves getting Naloxone, a medicine that rapidly reverses opioid overdoses, on campus.
This experience with Students United has shown me the power of public relations in advocacy. PR is an effective tool to communicate, gain visibility, and grow support to drive meaningful change.
Whether it is through a social media campaign, press release, or strategic messages, public relations can turn awareness into action and making a lasting impact on communities.
