In today’s digital age, we are surrounded by influencers promoting various products. It’s become difficult to know which influencers are advertising these brands for money, and which influencers truly believe the product is worth the buy. This is where being authentic is becoming a key communication strategy in today’s world.

“Authenticity revolves around trust”

Trust is the foundation of a good relationship with your audience that will create a sense of connection. Staying transparent and being open about values and mistakes will all play a crucial role in your viewer's trust. When influencers are not authentic, they lose the public’s trust which may lead to losing both their audience's and credibility.

An influencer’s offline presence also matters when it comes to authenticity. If they are not the same person as they portray online, they risk damaging their credibility and hurting their reputation.

When influencers promote products, being open and honest is the most important thing they can do, even if they don’t like the product they’re advertising.

Here are a few tips on how to stay authentic:

  • Know yourself

  • Be honest and transparent

  • Stay consistent with your words and values

  • Communicate with your audience

Authenticity is what sets individuals apart; it involves being true to yourself and your values. The next time you encounter an influencer promoting a product, investigate their past content and see if they have been consistent with it. This is a great way to see if they truly like the brand they are promoting or if their involvement is purely financial.
